Wicklow Local Sports Partnership along with Wicklow County Council and Wicklow LCDC is delighted to provide Wicklow’s first Accessible Beach Wheelchair. Wicklow Local Sports Partnership secured funding for the Beach Wheelchair through Healthy Ireland Funding.
The Beach Wheelchair will be located at Brittas North Beach which is a Blue Flag Beach with ample parking and access to the beach via a tarmac path which leads directly to the beach.

Aisling Hubbard, coordinator of Wicklow sports partnership, said she was "delighted that there is now a beach wheelchair in Wicklow and this is the culmination of the brilliant working relationship between the sports partnership, Wicklow county council, the LCDC and Healthy Ireland."
Grainne McLoughlin, chairperson of the LCDC, said she is delighted that Wicklow is embracing the importance of inclusivity with the launch of its first Beach wheelchair. This is the first of many I hope and hopefully, over the coming years every Beach in Wicklow will be accessible for all children.
Together with the new playground in Greystones, we are at last recognizing the importance of access to play areas as a norm for children with all forms of disability. Working with so many communities, I am delighted to see that wicklow sports partnership is ensuring that all our children can play together.

The Beach Wheelchair will be available Monday – Sunday from 11am – 7pm for the remainder of the summer. The Beach Wheelchair can be booked through “The Beach Hut” in Brittas on 0404-47542 and is available for up to 2 Hour periods (last booking at 5pm, Terms and Conditions apply). Colin Bell. If we get any more sunny days....

Great to see, in Portugal & other holiday destinations, there is an abundance of beach wheelchairs and it was amazing to watch adults and children alike with disabilities experience the feel of the water around them. They should be on every beach in Ireland. Well done WLSP

Julia Carrick

Yay well done, hopefully more to come

Ita Ni Crath

Is there a hoist available to transfer people with disabilities that need assistance to move from one chair to this beach chair?
